The romans went into the game against a very talented Oak Park - River Forest team on the heels of a must win victory against GBW.
The romans started off strong and dominated the 1Q, with strong play from Casey Mitchel & Caroline Gaines on the midfield flanks that created a number of changes that unfortunately just went wide from Kaya Bhandari & Lizzy Wells.
The romans pressure continued in the 2Q and got their deserved lead from a penalty corner, which was converted into the goal by Lizzy Wells from a cross shot from Ellie O'Shea. The romans had other opportunities to extend their lead but could not find their way past an inspired OPRF goalkeeper.
OPRF came out strong in the 3Q with mounting pressure, however the defensive line of Margaret, Zoe, Charlotte and Kennedy held strong until OPRF were awarded a penalty corner and they scored from a fine deflection from their inserter.
With 4Q, the romans remembered all those frozen runs in pre-season and were the fitter team, with a change in formation that saw Ellie O'Shea go up top as a forward. Just before the whistle blew for the game the romans won a penalty corner. With this being the last play of regulation, the corner was played to perfection with Abby Krasaeath finishing the goal with a sublime finish reverse stick. This led to wild celebrations for the girls!
The romans face a tough game against Glenbrook on Thursday in a back to back encounter. Lets go Romans!
