OT Thriller

The Romans went into the game against a very talented and robust GBW team knowing they needed a league win to get then back in the seeding hunt.

These 2 teams have played very close games over the last 3 years with each game going to OT or being decided by 1 goal.

As predicted the game was very tight with the romans coming out and playing a strong game from the start, thanks to the midfield work rate of Abby Krasaeath, Caroline Gaines the team was able to gain forward momentum creating early opportunities for Casey Mitchell up front. 

The defense which was very well marshalled by seniors Margaret Townsend, Charlotte Dann as GBW continued their attacks down their right side.

There was very little to call between the 2 teams during the first half, with very few chances for both teams.

The 3Q started with some changes to the romans line up, with Casey Mitchell moving to midfield and Lizzy wells coming up front, immediately the team had a lot more forward momentum and played some great balls into the circle, unfortunately there was no final touch for the illusive goal. 

GBW came back strong in 4Q, creating some fast break opportunities, however the backline for the romans stayed string and were marshalled very well and with Joey Fineberg making clean saves when needed.

As the game moved to OT, the romans thought they won a penalty stroke when freshman Caroline Gaines was take out cynically, however justice proved as the romans scored from the penalty corner with Zoe Larsen having a shot that was deflected by the goal keeper and the finishing touch applied by Caroline Gaines before the ball crossed the line.

The romans help on and also had further chances to close the game out, as the final whistle went the team celebrated knowing the importance of the win to their season!
